Defence output soars: Annual production in FY25 hits Rs 1.5 lakh crore; Rajnath Singh gives details

NEW DELHI: The annual defence production has reached a historic high of Rs 1,50,590 crore in the financial year 2024-25, defence minister Rajnath Singh announced on Saturday. The figure marks an 18 per cent jump from last year’s output of Rs 1.27 lakh crore and a striking 90 per cent surge compared to FY 2019-20, when production stood at Rs 79,071 crore, he said. The annual defence production has soared to an all-time high figure of Rs 1,50,590 crore in the Financial Year (FY) 2024-25. These numbers indicate a robust 18% growth over the previous fiscal’s output of Rs 1.27 lakh crore, and a staggering 90% increase since FY 2019-20, when the figure was Rs 79,071 crore,” Rajnath Singh said in a post on X.Singh credited the growth to collective efforts of department of defence production and all stakeholders. “I commend the collective efforts of the Department of Defence Production and all stakeholders i.e., DPSUs, public sector manufacturers, and the private industry in achieving this landmark,” he said. “This upward trajectory is a clear indicator of India’s strengthening defence industrial base,” Singh added. The milestone comes amid the government’s continued focus on the “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” initiative, with increased participation from both public and private sector companies in producing advanced weaponry, platforms, and systems for the armed forces.
