Bengaluru shocker: Cops on lookout for fake doctor who ran clinic for almost 10 years; gave patients steroid shots, allopathy drugs

BENGALURU: Alerted by an anonymous complaint, police are on the lookout for a man who allegedly ran a medical clinic for years fraudulently at Doddakannahalli. The alleged quack, Munendrachari K, ran a clinic called ‘Health Line Poly Clinic’ for almost a decade while posing as a family physician. The Bengaluru Urban district health officer (DHO) assigned the KR Pura in-charge taluk health officer, Dr BB Raghunath, to investigate the issue after an anonymous complaint was sent to the health department in March. The complaint said Munendrachari, who is in his mid-40s, claimed to be an Ayurvedic doctor but was prescribing allopathic medicines to his patients and also giving steroid injections, causing side effects.During his investigation, Dr Raghunath found the clinic had the names of two doctors on its display board — one with MBBS and MD, and Munendrachari with only the title of family physician. The clinic’s prescription letterhead had the same information. A notice was issued to the two men on April 3, asking them to produce their medical degrees. Munendrachari received the notice but didn’t produce his degree. During the verification of documents collected after an inspection of the clinic on April 15, officials found that the clinic’s registration was valid from Aug 18, 2023, to Aug 17, 2028. However, it was registered as an Ayurveda clinic. Health department officials also found that the certificate submitted by Munendrachari at the time of registration was fake. On May 5, Dr Raghunath found that the clinic was closed and there was no board on it. When he inquired, he was told Munendrachari had shut down operations a few days ago. Dr Raghunath subsequently filed a police complaint, and a case was registered under the Karnataka Private Medical Establishments Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Sections 318 (cheating), 319 (cheating by personation), 336 (forgery), and 340 (forged document or electronic record and using it as genuine).
