1999 murder case in Saudi Arabia: CBI arrests fugitive at Delhi airport after 25 years; was living under fake identity

NEW DELHI: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) apprehended Mohammad Dilshad, a fugitive accused of committing a murder in Saudi Arabia in 1999. Dilshad, who evaded authorities for over two decades, was arrested at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi on August 11.According to the CBI, Dilshad was working as a heavy motor mechanic and security guard in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, when he allegedly committed the murder. He subsequently fled to India and remained untraceable until the agency launched an investigation based on a request from the Saudi Arabian authorities in April 2022.The CBI registered a local prosecution case and opened a Look Out Circular (LOC) against Dilshad. Despite these efforts, he managed to evade capture by using a different identity and travelling abroad on a fake passport. However, the agency was able to track him down using technical leads and human intelligence.Dilshad was arrested at the Delhi airport while travelling from Madinah, Saudi Arabia, on a different passport.He is currently employed as a mechanic in a company in Madinah and was 52 years old at the time of his arrest. Dilshad has been sent to judicial custody, and the CBI continues to investigate the case.
