The student, fueled by rage, used a country-made pistol, prompting a police search and school closures in protest of the violence. Authorities are investigating how the student obtained the firearm.

RUDRAPUR: A Class 9 student opened fire at his teacher at Guru Nanak School in Kashipur, Udham Singh Nagar, on Wednesday after being allegedly scolded over homework. Several students fled their classrooms in fear as the management rushed Singh to hospital.“The bullet brushed past his shoulder. He is out of danger but remains under medical observation,” a doctor treating him said. The student fled after the shooting, and police have launched a search operation in nearby areas. “We are investigating the case in detail. The accused will be caught soon. We are also probing how a student got access to a firearm and what exactly led him to take such an extreme step,” said Abhay Singh, SP Kashipur. In protest, the Udham Singh Nagar Association of Independent Schools has announced closure of schools on Thursday. “We condemn this crime and stand in solidarity with the victim. We demand strict action against the accused and those who provided him with the illegal gun,” said association member Vijay Girdhar.
