US President Donald Trump on Saturday said he expects clarity within two weeks on whether Russia and Ukraine will move towards a ceasefire, while expressing deep frustration over Moscow’s continued strikes. Speaking in the Oval Office on Friday, Trump made clear he was dissatisfied with the current state of the conflict and hinted at a major decision ahead.“I’m not happy about it and I’m not happy about anything having to do with that war,” Trump told reporters, after condemning a Russian strike that hit a US-owned factory in Ukraine on Thursday.“I said I settled seven wars and actually, if you think about Pre-wars, add three more, so it would be 10. I thought this would be in the middle of the pack in terms of difficulty. I’m not happy about anything about that war. Nothing. Not happy at all. We’ll see what happens. I think over the next two weeks we’re going to find out which way it’s going to go, and I better be very happy.”The US president said he would decide soon whether to impose “massive sanctions or massive tariffs or both” on Moscow, or to “do nothing and say it’s your fight.” He added: “Then I’m going to make a decision as to what we do and it’s going to be a very important decision.”Trump has repeatedly said he is working to arrange a summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy, though he conceded progress remained elusive. “We’re going to see if Putin and Zelensky will be working together. You know, it’s like oil and vinegar, a little bit. They don’t get along too well, for obvious reasons,” he remarked.The Kremlin, however, dismissed talk of an imminent meeting. Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov said, “There is no meeting planned” between the two leaders, despite Trump’s claims that arrangements had begun. Zelensky, in a press conference with Nato Secretary General Mark Rutte, said Russia was “trying to do anything to avoid the meeting,” accusing Moscow of dragging its feet.
