Owner held after dog mauls 11-year-old to death in Etawah

KANPUR: Two days after an 11-year-old boy died of injuries sustained in a dog bite attack, the Etawah police on Sunday arrested the owner of the pet. The arrest came after the post-mortem report confirmed that victim, who used to collect crap, died from injuries sustained during an attack by the dog. The report revealed that the dog bit the boy’s neck five times, leaving half inch deep teeth marks. According to police, the boy was roaming around a house in the Lal Pura neighbourhood when the accused’s pet dog attacked him. The dog jumped from the roof and bit the boy’s neck. The boy struggled and screamed for help, but no assistance came. Shortly afterwards, a group of stray dogs arrived and began to maul him. Bystanders eventually chased the stray dogs away using sticks. The boy lay bleeding for about 15 minutes before the police arrived and transported him to hospital. However, he succumbed to excessive blood loss before medical assistance could be provided. The police filed a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder against the dog owner. Station in-charge Yashwant Singh said based on the family’s complaint, a case has been registered and the accused has been sent to jail. According to locals, the same dog had attacked two labourers working at a nearby house, leaving them seriously injured, on Saturday. Angry residents, armed with sticks, rods, bricks and stones, chased the dog towards the forest area to ensure their safety.
