Bengaluru man chases live-in partner’s car, douses her in petrol; sets her ablaze

BENGALURU: A 26-year-old woman in Bengaluru has died after her live-in partner allegedly set her on fire in a case of domestic violence, police said.Vanajakshi succumbed to burn injuries after being admitted to hospital early on Monday. Her partner, Vithal, a cab driver, was arrested within 24 hours of the incident. He also sustained burn injuries and is under treatment, according to police. Investigators said the couple had been living together.Vanajakshi had recently separated from Vithal following repeated disputes over his drinking habits. Vithal intercepted a car in which Vanajakshi was travelling with Mariappa (a distant relative) and a driver after visiting a temple.

At a traffic signal, he poured petrol into the vehicle, splashing it on the occupants. They rushed out, but the accused chased Vanajakshi down and set her on fire.
