Hamas on Monday said it will discuss US president Donald Trump’s proposed peace plan for Gaza, after initially rejecting it.The proposal was shared with Hamas negotiators by Qatar’s prime minister and Egypt’s intelligence chief, a senior Hamas official told news agency Associated Press. “We will begin studying it today,” the official said on condition of anonymity.

According to a CBS news report, the Hamas representatives will present their response to Qatari and Egyptian officials on Wednesday.While rejecting disarmament, Hamas had earlier said it had a right to resist until the Israeli occupation of Palestinian lands ends.With Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agreeing to the proposal in a meeting with US president Donald Trump on Monday, the response from Hamas is awaited.Netanyahu, however, later rejected the plan for a Palestinian state, adding that if Hamas did not embrace the proposal, “then Israel will finish the job by itself.” Israeli foreign minister Gideon Saar said his country has agreed to Trump’s “plan for ending the war in Gaza and for a better future,” adding that it is now up to Hamas to state its position. He accused the group of previously trying to alter terms or evade implementing past agreements. “We will see,” he remarked.What’s Trump’s 20-point peace planThe proposal calls on Hamas to lay down arms and surrender in exchange for a ceasefire, the flow of humanitarian aid, and pledges of rebuilding Gaza, conditions desperately sought by people in the war-torn enclave, where the death toll has surpassed 66,000 Palestinians, according to Gaza’s health ministry’s recent report.
