VARANASI: A 75-year-old man who married a 40-year-old widow on Monday died the following morning after a sudden deterioration in his health in Jaunpur district.The incident took place in Kuchhmuchh village under the Gaurabadshahpur police station area. Police said the deceased, identified as Sangru, was taken for postmortem on Wednesday after his nephew, Ravi, arrived from Delhi. “No allegations have been made, but everyone wanted to ensure no foul play occurred,” said Pravin Kumar Yadav, in-charge of Gaurabadshahpur police station. The next steps will depend on the postmortem report. Sangru, a native of Kuchhmuchh, was previously married to Anari, who died at the age of 65. The couple had no children. With his brother and nephews living in cities such as Delhi, Sangru had no one at home to care for him. Villagers and relatives advised him to remarry and helped him find a bride. He met Manbhavati, a 40-year-old widow from Baija Rampur under Kotwali police station, who has three children – two daughters, Anjali and another daughter, and a son, Shiva – from her first marriage. Sangru convinced her to marry him, assuring her that he would take care of her and her children, as he owned two bigha of land, a house, and had sufficient savings. The couple married on Monday, chosen as an auspicious day during the festival of Navratri. Relatives and villagers attended the ceremony in a local temple. A video of Sangru applying vermillion on Manbhavati’s forehead and blessing her went viral on social media. After the wedding, Sangru brought Manbhavati and her children to his home in Kuchhmuchh. He slept on a cot outside the house that night. The next morning, his health deteriorated sharply, and neighbours rushed him to a local hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
