Tractor-trolley overturns during idol immersion in MP's Khandwa, 11 dead

INDORE: Eleven people, including eight young girls, drowned on Thursday evening when a tractor-trolley carrying devotees for Durga idol immersion toppled into a pond in Khandwa district. The mishap occurred in Ardala village of Pandhana area, where residents of Padlafata from Rajgarh gram panchayat had gathered for the ritual.Witnesses said the trolley, laden with around 20 to 25 passengers, had been halted near a culvert by the pond when it suddenly lost balance and slipped into the water. Rescue efforts were launched immediately after the accident, with police, administrative officials and locals rushing to the site. A JCB machine was deployed to pull the trolley out.By evening, 11 bodies had been recovered, though officials feared the toll could rise as several others were still missing. Locals and family members maintained that more victims remained trapped under water.Khandwa SP Manoj Rai confirmed the incident and said search operations were continuing late into the night.
