Why Indian cricketer Abhishek Sharma couldn't attend his sister's wedding

NEW DELHI: It was a day filled with joy, emotion, and celebration for the Sharma family as Komal Sharma, sister of young Indian cricketer Abhishek Sharma, tied the knot with businessman Lovish Oberoi in a grand ceremony in Amritsar. I am very happy and excited. I am missing my brother,” she said, visibly emotional about Abhishek’s absence. The young Indian all-rounder, however, was unable to attend due to national duty. Sharma is currently representing India A in the ongoing unofficial ODI series against Australia A. The second match of the series, held at Green Park in Kanpur on Friday, coincided with his sister’s wedding, forcing him to prioritise cricket over family celebrations.

What do you think is more important for young athletes like Abhishek?

It was an unfortunate outing for Sharma, who was dismissed for a golden duck, a rare low in an otherwise promising run for the youngster. India A posted 246 all out in 45.5 overs, with notable contributions from Tilak Varma (94) and Riyan Parag (58). Australia A captain Jack Edwards was the wrecker-in-chief, claiming four wickets for 56 runs, including Sharma, Tilak, and India A skipper Shreyas Iyer. India opted to bat first.Despite missing this special day, Abhishek’s dedication to the game underscores the sacrifices young cricketers make in balancing family and professional commitments. Meanwhile, Komal and Lovish began their married life surrounded by the warmth and love of family and friends. While Abhishek could not be physically present, the bond between siblings remains strong, with mutual support guiding both of them in their respective journeys.
