At Least 39 Dead, Several Injured In Vijay’s TVK Rally In Karur After Deadly Stampede

CHENNAI: Chief minister MK Stalin said the state govt is taking the observations and guidelines issued by the Madras high court “with utmost seriousness” in the wake of the Karur stampede in which 41 persons were killed, in the campaign of actor and TVK president Vijay.“We will frame a comprehensive Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) in consultation with experts, political parties, activists and the public. This will serve not just Tamil Nadu but as a model for the entire country,” Stalin tweeted.Announcing the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT), set up as per the high court’s direction, Stalin said, “Complete truth will come out. Accountability will be fixed at every level.”Expressing grief over the stampede tragedy, Stalin said, “Our hearts are shattered by what happened in Karur. I share the pain of every family that has lost a loved one.”The CM urged all stakeholders to rise above political blame games. “Instead of pointing fingers, let us work together for a long-term solution. Every life is precious. Let us unite to ensure that such a tragedy never recurs not in Tamil Nadu, not anywhere in India,” Stalin said.
