GHAZIABAD: On a quiet Saturday afternoon at Dasna Jail, two police constables arrived with a plan that seemed straight out of a crime thriller.Sachin Kumar and Rahul Kumar were not in uniform and drove up in a private car, carrying with them a bunch of papers that they claimed was a “court order”. Their mission was to facilitate the release of two prisoners — Bijendra Singh and Vansh.Sachin, who joined the police force in 2015, and Rahul, who followed a year later, were both posted at the district police lines. On Saturday, they approached the jail authorities and claimed they needed to take Bijendra and Vansh to Noida for a court appearance. Presenting the “court production order”, the constables pressed for the immediate handover of the two inmates.The jail officials, however, noticed inconsistencies.According to Suryabali Mourya, ACP (Kavi Nagar), the papers Sachin and Rahul carried with them actually listed six prisoners for production, not just two. When the constables insisted on taking only Bijendra and Vansh, suspicion grew. The jail authorities decided to verify the request with the Ghaziabad police lines.Their call revealed a crucial detail. There were no scheduled court productions that day due to a shortage of staff — and the court had already been informed about it. Moreover, no cops had been officially dispatched to Dasna jail.

Realising their plan was unravelling, Sachin and Rahul quickly fled the scene, leaving the jail staff alarmed but alert.The jail administration immediately reported the incident to their superiors. Reserve Police inspector Chandrabhaan Singh filed a formal complaint at Kavi Nagar police station, detailing the attempted jailbreak and naming the two constables involved. Sachin and Rahul were suspended from duty and arrested later that evening.An FIR was registered against the two constables under sections 61(2) (criminal conspiracy) and 260 (intentional omission to apprehend on the part of a public servant bound to apprehend a person under sentence or lawfully committed) of the BNS. During questioning, the cops denied any wrongdoing, but admitted to having met Bijendra and Vansh during a previous court hearing. They claimed their intention was simply to help the prisoners meet their families, though they did not disclose whether any money had changed hands.DCP Dhawal Jaiswal said police were now examining the constables’ call and bank records to determine if others were involved. The investigators are also looking into the backgrounds of Bijendra and Vansh, as well as their families, to uncover any connections that may have facilitated the plot.The constables were remanded in judicial custody.Bijendra, police said, was arrested on May 18 this year and is facing charges of cheating, forgery, and violations under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. Vansh, nabbed on Sept 14, has five cases against him, including theft, attempt to murder, and violations of the Arms Act, across police stations in Ghaziabad and Noida.
