Bareilly: An additional district and sessions court in Bareilly sentenced four people — including a woman, her husband, father, and brother — to rigorous life imprisonment for murdering her lover in 2022. A fine of Rs 80,000 was also imposed on the convicts – Ekta, 27, Satendra, 30, Rajkumar, 52, and Saurabh, 29.According to ADGC (crime) Harendra Rathore, the incident dates back to March 19, 2022 when the body of Sunil Kumar (then 28), a resident of Amrekh village in Faridpur, was found in a sugarcane field nearby. “Based on his father Ramsharan’s complaint, an FIR was registered at the Faridpur police station against unidentified persons under section 302 (murder) of the IPC,” Rathore told TOI, adding that during investigation, police obtained the call detail record (CDR) of Sunil’s mobile phone, which revealed he was having an affair with Ekta, originally from the same village.

“Ekta was married to Satendra, a resident of Sahasa village in Visharatganj area. Despite her marriage, she continued her relationship with Sunil, which allegedly angered her husband and family members, who then conspired to eliminate him,” the ADGC added.“Investigations revealed that on the night of March 18, 2022, Ekta called Sunil to meet her. When he arrived, the accused strangled him to death and dumped his body in a nearby sugarcane field. The postmortem report later confirmed seven injury marks on his body with throttling as the cause of death,” said Rathore.The court of additional district judge Avinash Kumar Singh on Thursday convicted the four accused and imposed a penalty of Rs 80,000 on them, directing that the entire amount be given to the victim’s family.
