The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially commenced the registration process for JEE Main 2026 Session 1. JEE is one of India’s most competitive engineering entrance examination cycle for the 2026–27 academic session. The online application window will remain open from October 31 to November 27, 2025 (till 9:00 PM), and the fee payment can be completed up to 11:50 PM on the same day.The Joint Entrance Examination (Main), conducted on behalf of the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, remains the primary gateway for admission to undergraduate engineering programmes such as B.E. and B.Tech at the National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs). It also serves as the eligibility test for JEE Advanced, the next level for admission into the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).

JEE Main Session 1 registration 2026: Key details

As per the official notification, JEE Main 2026 will be conducted in two sessions, Session 1 in January 2026 and Session 2 in April 2026. The first session will be held between January 21 and January 30, 2026, across multiple cities and shifts. The city of examination will be announced in the first week of January 2026, while admit cards will be made available on the official NTA website shortly after.

JEE Main 2026 registration: Steps to apply

Candidates can follow the steps mentioned here to apply for the JEE Main 2026 exam:

  • Visit the official NTA JEE website.
  • Click on the “JEE Main 2026 Session 1 Registration” link.
  • Complete the registration form with personal and academic details.
  • Log in using the generated credentials.
  • Fill out the detailed application form and upload required documents.
  • Pay the application fee through credit/debit card, net banking, or UPI.
  • Download the confirmation page and retain a hard copy for future reference.

JEE Main 2026 paper structure

JEE Main 2026 will comprise two papers:

  • Paper 1: For admission to B.E./B.Tech programmes at NITs, IIITs, and other participating institutions. It also qualifies students for JEE Advanced.
  • Paper 2: For admission to B.Arch and B.Planning programmes across Indian universities and institutes.

The examination will be conducted in 13 languages, including English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu, ensuring inclusivity for students from diverse linguistic backgrounds.

JEE Main syllabus and marking scheme

The JEE Main 2026 syllabus aligns with the NCERT curriculum for Classes 11 and 12.Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech) includes:

  • Physics: Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Electricity & Magnetism, Optics, Modern Physics
  • Chemistry: Physical, Organic, and Inorganic Chemistry
  • Mathematics: Algebra, Calculus, Coordinate Geometry, Trigonometry, and Probability

Marking Scheme:

  • +4 marks for each correct answer
  • -1 mark for every incorrect response
  • No negative marking for unattempted questions
