Another Indian woman caught shoplifting in US; breaks down, cries 'sorry' - video goes viral

A video of an India woman crying and pleading before US officers has gone viral on social claiming that she was caught shoplifting. The undated and unverified video has been widely circulated on X and the TOI could not independently verify the authenticity of the footage. The woman in the video claimed that she “forgot to pay” as she broke down and cried before the officers.Earlier this year, an Indian tourist in US was caught shoplifting items worth nearly $1,000 (approx. Rs 1.1 lakh) from a Target store, leading to her arrest on the spot. “Why can’t I just pay for it?” she was heard asking the officers in the video, to which an officer replies, “We’re way, way, way past that. You committed a felony.”Reacting to this, the US embassy had said: “Committing assault, theft, or burglary in the United States won’t just cause you legal issues – it could lead to your visa being revoked and make you ineligible for future US visas. The United States values law and order and expects foreign visitors to follow all US laws.”
