JAIPUR: A nine-year-old girl died under ‘suspicious circumstances’ after falling over a fourth-floor parapet wall at the Neerja Modi School in Mansarovar Saturday afternoon, police said.The Class IV student was immediately rushed to the nearby Metro Mass Hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead. Mansarover SHO Lakhan Singh Khatana said a case has been filed against the school management and teaching staff based on a complaint of negligence by the girl’s family.

CCTV footage from multiple cameras showing the girl falling to the ground have been recovered, Khatana said.Police are also investigating allegations that the school tampered with evidence at the scene of the incident, adding that FSL teams were called to collect samples. A colleague of the girl’s mother, who rushed to the school after hearing news of the incident, told TOI that blood stains on the ground-floor stairs had been washed before she arrived.The school’s principal, Indu Dubey, told TOI that the girl had asked for permission to use the washroom during the last period. Instead of using one right next to her classroom on the ground floor, however, she went up to the fourth floor and jumped over a wall, she added. “The girl was an all-rounder who received an award for academic excellence recently. She didn’t show any unusual signs,” Dubey said. She claimed that the girl was rushed to the hospital right away, and her parents were informed.In the complaint filed at the Mansarovar police station, the girl’s father Vijay Kumar alleged negligence on the school management’s part, adding that they neither answered his questions nor showed him the site of the accident.School education minister Madan Dilawar said the district education officer, Jaipur, has been directed to conduct a full inquiry and submit a prompt report to determine the circumstances and ensure appropriate action.The girl’s body was later moved to the mortuary at Jaipuria Hospital for a post-mortem. Police said they are awaiting FSL and post-mortem reports and will start questioning witnesses soon.
