Bihar: Bridge collapses in Araria; built in 2019 for Rs 4 crore, traffic movement halted

ARARIA: A pillar of a small bridge in Bihar’s Araria district collapsed on Monday, an official said.The official added that no one was injured in the incident, which occurred in Forbesganj.Speaking to PTI, district magistrate (DM) Anil Kumar said, “I have sought a detailed report regarding the incident.”

According to locals, a middle pillar of the bridge over the Parman River in Kevlashi village, under Forbesganj sub-division, collapsed on Monday. The bridge, managed by the state government’s Rural Works Department (RWD), was built in 2019 at a cost of Rs 4 crore.The bridge connects Forbesganj with Pategna village and other nearby areas. Officials said the movement of traffic on the bridge has been completely stopped and a team of technical experts from the RWD Department will be sent to inquire into the incident.Last year, the state witnessed the collapse of a dozen bridges, both big and small, across various districts.(With agency inputs)
