Faridabad horror: 17-year-old girl shot by jilted lover; bullet hits shoulder, attacker flees

GURGAON: A 17-year-old girl was shot by a motorcyclist on a busy street in Shyam Colony, Ballabgarh, in Faridabad around 5.30pm on Monday.According to police, the girl, a class 12 student, was returning home from a local library when the man approached him. He fired at her with a country-made pistol. The bullet hit her shoulder. She also suffered a wound on her hand from the pellets.

On hearing the girl scream, residents and passersby tried to nab the biker, but he managed to flee.“We heard a loud noise. Initially, we thought someone was bursting crackers, but later we realised that someone was screaming. We got out of our house, and my father, along with the locals, tried to catch him. In panic, he threw his weapon on the road but managed to flee,” said a resident of the area.Police seized the weapon. The incident was caught in the nearby CCTV cameras. “As the girl was bleeding profusely, we tried to stop the blood with a handkerchief, and then took her to Sarvodaya Hospital,” the resident added. She is in a stable condition now.“The motorcyclist fired the pistol with the intent to kill the girl, but luckily, she survived the attack and is undergoing treatment. We are yet to ascertain the reason behind the attack. A case for murder and possession of illegal weapons has been registered under sections of BNS and the Arms Act,” said sub-inspector Yashpal.Meanwhile, sources said that the suspect has been identified and is believed to be a resident of a nearby area. A local that the girl belongs to a business family. Police are also investigating whether the shooter knew her.
