Andhra Pradesh shocker: Ashram school headmistress suspended for making students massage her legs

SRIKAKULAM: The in-charge headmistress in an ashram school at Moliaputt village, in Parvathipuram district of Andhra Pradesh, made an alleged serious breach of professional ethics by making students massage her in the school. The incident is said to have occurred around 10 days ago, but came to light on Tuesday when a video of students massaging her went viral on social media. The authorities concerned suspended the teacher immediately. The video showed two little children massaging the teacher’s legs while she was attending a call on her mobile. This action constitutes misconduct, an abuse of power, and can be classified as physical and mental harassment of a child, said N Suman, a senior lawyer and a member of Visakhapatnam Bar Association, adding that it is a violation of students’ right to safety and dignity and exploitation for personal non-educational purposes. The teacher was made acting headmaster after the school’s regular headmaster was transferred. She has a good record of service and never committed such an act, school sources said. The incident took place at Bandapalli girls tribal ashram school — residential school with around 300 students — at Moliaputt. The video shows the teacher relaxing in a chair with her legs on another chair, while two girls are seen massaging her legs. After the video went viral, the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) project officer of Seetampeta in Parvathipuram district, Pawar Swapnil Jagannath, issued a show cause notice and also suspended her. He told TOI that a detailed inquiry has been ordered into the issue and based on facts, further action would be taken against the teacher.
