'Sorry. Can't live with them anymore': Telangana woman kills self over fear of ants; leaves apology note behind
25-year-old woman in Sangareddy district allegedly died by suicide due to a severe childhood fear of ants.

HYDERABAD: A 25-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide, reportedly driven by a fear of ants at her residence in Sangareddy district on Tuesday. According to police, the deceased had myrmecophobia, or the fear of ants, since childhood and previously attended counselling sessions at a hospital in her native town of Mancherial to cure the condition.Police said the incident took place on Tuesday after the deceased, who got married in 2022, dropped her three-year-old daughter at her relative’s place, whom she was to pick up after cleaning the house. Her husband, who went to work in the morning, was away too. Upon returning home in the evening at 5.30 PM after work, police said her husband found the door locked from inside. With help from neighbours, he broke open the door, only to find his wife hanging. Officials said she left behind a suicide note, which read: “Sri, I am sorry. I can’t live with these ants anymore. Take care of Anvi. Annavaram, Tirupati – 1,116. Don’t forget Ellamma’s rice.” “It appears she might have noticed ants while cleaning and, out of fear, took the extreme step,” police said. A case has been registered at the Ameenpur police station, and probe is on.
