Multiple people fell ill at Joint Base Andrews at Joint Base Andrews, a US military base in Maryland, after being exposed to a suspicious white powder delivered to the base after an individual opened a suspicious package delivered at the base.According to CNN, a building on the base was evacuated after the package was opened. In a statement released, Joint Base Andrews said that after the first responders were dispatched, they confirmed there were no immediate threats at the location. The base also shared that investigations are ongoing. “As a precaution, the building and connecting building were evacuated, and a cordon was established around the area,” the base’s statement said. “Joint Base Andrews first responders were dispatched to the scene, determined there were no immediate threats, and have turned the scene over to Office of Special Investigations. An investigation is currently ongoing.”The incident occurred in a building housing the Air National Guard Readiness Center, after which several people were taken to the Malcolm Grow Medical Centre at Joint Base Andrews. The field test conducted by HAZMAT cleared the scene of any threats by Thursday evening; however, the affected rooms are sealed off.Authorities have not disclosed the number of individuals or the nature of the illness yet. Investigators are examining the substance found in the package and also assessing the possibility of political propaganda behind it.Joint Base Andrews is an important military installation that is used by key officials like the US President, vice president and other cabinet secretaries. In fact, Trump was at the Joint Base Andrews on Wednesday as he was flying to Miami, Florida, for the American Business Forum, though officials have not indicated any connection between his visit and the incident.
