4-year-old raped, dumped in Bengal; kin held

TARAKESWAR: A four-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped in her sleep, raped and dumped in a locality in Tarakeswar in Bengal’s Hooghly district Saturday. Police arrested one of her close relatives, reports Falguni Banerjee. The child lived with her grandparents. Hours after she went missing, locals allegedly found her gravely injured, bleeding profusely, and crying for help near a drain a few hundred metres from Tarakeswar railway station. She was rushed to hospital where doctors treated her wounds and discharged her. Her family, however, alleged that the child had been sexually assaulted. Cops then launched an investigation and had the girl readmitted for a medico-legal examination.
