India hopes China moves to fulfil rare earth promise

The Kailash pilgrimage has resumed since, and tourist visas are being granted to Chinese nationals. However, India is hoping China will move with alacrity on its promise to address India’s need for fertilisers, rare earth items and tunnel boring machines. At their meeting in Tianjin in Aug, Modi and Xi had underlined the need to proceed from a political and strategic direction to expand bilateral trade and investment ties and reduce the trade deficit. There’s an opportunity for the leaders to meet again on the margins of the G20 summit in South Africa later this month, though it’s not clear if Xi will attend the event.
