Nawada assembly constituency, one of the 243 seats in the Bihar Legislative assembly, falls under the Nawada Lok Sabha constituency and is reserved for the General category. Located in Nawada district, it is among the six assembly segments of the parliamentary seat.Since 1977, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has won four times, while the Janata Dal (JD) has claimed the seat twice, making it a key battleground in the region.

In the 2020 elections, RJD candidate Vibha Devi secured victory with 72,435 votes, defeating Independent candidate Sharwan Kumar, son of Deva Mahto, who polled 46,125 votes. Devi won by a margin of 26,310 votes out of 1.8 lakh valid votes from over 3.5 lakh electors.The 2015 polls also went in RJD’s favour when Rajballabh Prasad triumphed with 88,235 votes. He defeated Rashtriya Lok Samta Party’s Indradeo Prasad, who garnered 71,509 votes, by a margin of 16,726.In contrast, the 2010 elections brought a win for Janata Dal (United) candidate Purnima Yadav. She polled 46,568 votes to edge out RJD’s Rajballabh Prasad, who secured 40,231, winning by a narrow margin of 6,337.With its electoral history marked by close contests and alternating dominance, Nawada remains a constituency to watch in Bihar politics.
