Husband stages own kidnapping to get ‘rid’ of his pregnant wife

LUCKNOW: Police on Friday claimed to have uncovered a meticulously fabricated kidnapping plot by a local bike mechanic who wanted to “escape” from his pregnant wife. The man, identified as Furqan, not only switched off his phone and disappeared for two days but also paid a minor boy to deliver a false abduction story to his wife. The police cracked the case using CCTV footage, technical surveillance, and ground intelligence, exposing the entire deception. According to Indiranagar inspector Sunil Kumar Tiwari, Furqan, a resident of Abrar Nagar Dhala and proprietor of a small motorcycle repair shop in Khurramnagar, left home around 7.30 pm on Wednesday along with a minor acquaintance. Minutes later, the minor reached Furqan’s wife Ayesha, who is pregnant, and relayed a dramatic story: that three to four men in a car suddenly arrived near CIMAP, assaulted Furqan brutally, threatened to kill anyone who raised an alarm, and abducted him in their vehicle. A panicked Ayesha rushed to Indiranagar police station. Acting promptly, police registered an FIR against unidentified kidnappers. Under the supervision of ACP Indiranagar Anindya Vikram Singh, two teams were formed to trace the alleged abductors. However, as investigators examined CCTV cameras in the vicinity, no sign of any kidnapping emerged. Instead, video footage showed Furqan walking alone toward Munshi Pulia, appearing calm and unhurt. Later footage captured him boarding an auto-rickshaw. Statements from local residents also failed to corroborate any abduction attempt. “After 48 hours of tracking movement through cameras, police finally traced Furqan near Munshi Pulia on Friday evening. When confronted with the evidence, he broke down and admitted that the kidnapping was a fabrication. He told the police that he had frequent arguments with his wife and wanted to ‘get rid of her,’ prompting him to orchestrate the fake abduction using the minor, whom he paid Rs 2,000,” said ACP Singh.
