Delhi police bust terror gangster module linked to Pakistan based handler

NEW DELHI: Delhi Police‘s special cell claimed to have busted an alleged terror-gangster module being run by Pakistan-based operative Shehzad Bhatti. The accused were reportedly planning to target Lawrence Bishnoi’s brother, Anmol, who was recently deported from the US.The accused have been identified as Asif (22), Hargunpreet Singh (19) and Vikas Prajapati (19).Additional CP Pramod Kushwaha said that discreet surveillance was mounted on communications being made by Bhatti, which led to the arrest of three people.Inquiry revealed that Asif came into contact with Bhatti about two and a half months ago through Instagram. Bhatti instructed him to execute a grenade attack in Punjab and provided him with photographs and a location map.Asif was also connected with Prajapati through Bhatti and told police he was directed to stay on standby for further instructions.Singh was introduced to Bhatti through a friend. Lured by the promise of quick money, he agreed to attack the Gurdaspur police station. “He and his associates travelled to Gurdaspur, received arms and a grenade from Prajapati and acted on Bhatti’s instructions,” police said. On Nov 25, Singh allegedly threw the grenade outside the police station while another associate drove the motorcycle. The investigation also found that Prajapati—wanted in an arms-smuggling case—was in frequent contact with Bhatti through several social media platforms. His location was traced to Gurdaspur. “Bhatti regularly instructed him to switch off his phone for safety. He was nabbed from Madhya Pradesh,” a senior police officer said.According to police, Bhatti and his associates targeted young individuals on social media, luring them with money and selecting recruits after scrutinising their profiles. The handlers remotely coordinated the entire operation—reconnaissance, cash payments, logistics and target selection.Interrogation revealed that the syndicate functioned as a structured, foreign-controlled terror module relying on financial inducements, remote direction and disposable foot soldiers to carry out grenade attacks in public places across India.Police said a semi-automatic pistol and 10 live cartridges were recovered. The accused’s mobile phones contain incriminating chats with Bhatti and other members of the overseas module.
