10 dohas (couplets) by Kabir which offer life's wisdom in a nutshell
Kabir, a 15th-century Bhakti poet, challenged religious dogma with his sharp dohas, emphasizing inner devotion over rituals and caste. A rebel disciple, his colloquial Hindi verses spoke to the soul, influencing Sikhs and sparking the Kabir Panth. His legacy continues to inspire a focus on love, questioning, and introspection.

Kabir Das or Sant Kabir is one poet we all remember from our school textbooks. Almost every Indian has grown up reading his dohas. The words that meant little sense during childhood were actually great life lessons. Kabirwas a Bhakti poet from 15th century India and was a contemporary of Sikandar Lodi and Guru Nanak. Born into a Muslim weaver family and despite not being formally educated, he was a maverick with words and wove couplets that shook the foundations of rigid Hinduism and Islam alike. A disciple of Sant Ramananda, Kabir faced threats from all sides for calling out empty piety, but his raw, colloquial poetry in Hindi dialects spoke straight to the soul, influencing Sikhs (his verses grace the Guru Granth Sahib) and sparking the Kabir Panth. He died in Maghar around 1518, sparking a tug-of-war over his body between Hindus and Muslims, fitting for a man who belonged to no one but the divine. In a world still split by labels, Kabir’s voice feels more urgent than ever: love fiercely, question boldly, and look within.मन्न के हारे हार है, मन्न के जीते जीत। कही कबीर हरि पाइए, मन्न ही की परीति॥Defeat lies in a defeated mind; victory in a conquering one.
