Monkey mayhem in Bahadurgarh: Elderly woman ambushed, bitten multiple times; CCTV shocks town

BAHADURGARH: An elderly woman sustained injuries after being attacked by a group of monkeys, raising concerns about the growing presence of monkeys in residential areas. The incident is believed to have taken place in Bahadurgarh, Haryana, on December 26 at around 1:45 pm, though the exact location has not been confirmed.CCTV footage from the area shows six to seven monkeys suddenly attacking the woman. The video captures her sitting calmly on a chair when the monkeys pounce, biting her multiple times and pulling her hair.Earlier, in November 2025, residents across Agra, particularly in Bijlighar Chakki Pat and Trans-Yamuna areas, had raised alarm over the growing monkey menace, calling for lasting measures to curb the escalating threat. Public anger had intensified after the death of nine-year-old Yashu, who fell from her second-floor balcony during an attack by a troop of monkeys. Locals said monkeys, attracted by the nearby market, frequently roamed rooftops and balconies, creating panic among residents. After the incident, local councillor Meena Devi and her son Rahul Kumar visited the site and lodged a formal complaint with the municipal corporation. In response, civic authorities launched a drive to capture the monkeys. Officials said 58 monkeys were caught over three days.
