Uma says tragedy ‘maha-paap’, calls for atonement & apology

Bhopal: Four days after contaminated water in Indore claimed the lives of 10 people, former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Uma Bharti criticised the MP govt and Indore mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava on X on Friday, saying that the incident has “shamed and disgraced our state, our govt, and our entire system”.Calling it “maha-paap”, Bharti called for “prayaschit” (atonement) and said the govt should apologise to the affected families and ensure severe punishment for all those responsible at every level. She said a city known for receiving awards for being the cleanest today stands exposed with its “ugliness, filth, and poisoned water, which has swallowed so many lives, and the death toll continuing to rise.”She said the price of the life of a victim cannot be Rs 2 lakh because their families remain immersed in grief for a lifetime. “Yeh Mohan Yadavji ki pariksha ki ghadi hai” (Its testing time for Mohan Yadavji),” she wrote.Bharti attacked Indore mayor Bhargava. Referring to Bhargava’s defence that officials of the Indore civic body don’t listen to him, she wrote: “Who is it saying that he couldn’t have his way in the contaminated water case? If you can’t get things done, why are you occupying that post and why do you consume packaged drinking water?”
