Prasar Bharati taps creator economy, launches 'Creator's Corner' on DD News

NEW DELHI: Prasar Bharati on Friday launched Creator’s Corner on DD News, signalling what the government says will be a year of sweeping reforms for the national broadcaster.Unveiling the initiative, information and broadcasting minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said 2026 would mark “major reforms” for Prasar Bharati, with Doordarshan and All India Radio being reoriented towards industry participation, new-generation creators and technology-driven processes. “Creator’s Corner is the first step in this reform journey,” Vaishnaw said, linking the move to the government’s broader push to modernise public media.Referring to the WAVES platform launched last year, Vaishnaw said it had emerged as a game changer for the creator economy, with the potential to empower one crore youth, generate new jobs and create economic activity of nearly Rs 5,000 crore.Minister of state for I&B L Murugan said the initiative reflected Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for the “orange economy”, noting that creators from small towns were independently producing, editing and distributing content without large studios or institutional backing. He said public broadcasting could now act as a bridge between grassroots talent and mass audiences.I&B secretary Sanjay Jaju said Creator’s Corner would help build a responsible and inclusive ecosystem, adding that the programme would gradually expand across Doordarshan channels in multiple languages, genres and formats. The show will air at 7 pm from Monday to Friday, featuring four to six creator-made videos per episode across genres ranging from news and culture to science, education and entertainment, with a repeat telecast the following morning, officials said.
