Viral video fallout: Kerala man kills self after woman alleges misbehaviour on bus; family calls claim baseless

KOZHIKODE: A 42-year-old man allegedly died by suicide after a woman shared a video on social media accusing him of misbehaving with her on a private bus. The deceased was identified as Deepak of Ullatthodi House at Govindapuram.In the two videos posted on social media, the woman alleged that the man had touched her inappropriately while travelling in a bus.The video, which the woman from Areekode recorded inside the bus while travelling from Payyannur railway station in Kannur last Friday, went viral on social media. The video was viewed by over two million people and widely shared.Deepak’s relatives and residents maintained that the woman’s allegation was baseless and said the man was shattered after being allegedly falsely implicated in the video.Deepak, who worked as an employee at a garment firm, was found hanging from a fan in his room around 7am on Sunday after family members noticed that he failed to come out of his room in the morning. He had been living with his parents.Subsequently, Medical College Police were informed about the incident and they reached the spot and completed inquest proceedings.After a post-mortem examination, Deepak’s body was handed over to his family. Police registered a case of unnatural death. Deepak is survived by his father Choyi and mother Kanyaka.Meanwhile, the woman is still saying that she stands by what she said.
