SIR: WB deadline may be extended by 10 days

The deadline for SIR hearings in Bengal, earlier set for Feb 7, will be extended by at least 10 days following Supreme Court order, a senior Election Commission (EC) official has said. As a result, the final publication of the electoral roll, scheduled for Feb 14, may also be deferred, reports Debashis Konar. “Ten days’ time is to be given to raise objections after the list is published,” the official said. The delay is expected because the list of voters flagged for “logical discrepancies” will be displayed at public places in every taluka and block office. Affected persons will be able to submit documents or objections through an authorised representative, including a BLA. “They must have an authority letter. Documents can also be submitted at panchayat or block offices,” the official said.
