Small passenger plane crashes in northeast Colombia, killing all 15 people on board

A small passenger aircraft with 15 people on board crashed on Wednesday in a rural part of Colombia’s northeast, killing everyone on the flight, authorities said. The plane went down in Norte de Santander province. Satena, the state-owned airline operating the flight, said local officials in the village of Curasica alerted authorities after spotting the crash site. Rescue teams were sent to the area, but there were no survivors. The aircraft, registered as HK4709, had taken off from the city of Cúcuta at 11.42 am local time. It was headed to Ocaña, a mountainous town about 40 minutes away by air. The flight lost contact with air traffic control just minutes after departure, Satena said in a statement. The plane was carrying 13 passengers and two crew members. Among those on board was Diógenes Quintero, a local representative of victims of Colombia’s internal armed conflict.
