BENGALURU: City police registered an FIR against Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh Wednesday for allegedly hurting religious sentiments by mimicking Rishab Shetty’s Daiva act from the film Kantara.Earlier, city-based advocate Prashanth Methal had approached the jurisdictional court seeking permission to register a criminal case against Singh on the same charges.
Following the court’s approval Wednesday, Methal submitted a copy of the order to High Grounds police, who then lodged the case. Singh had apologised for his act after facing backlash online.Shetty present during Singh’s actAccording to the complainant, the alleged incident occurred in Nov last year during the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival of India in Goa.Singh, while praising actor Shetty’s performance in Kantara Chapter 1, allegedly reenacted the climax sequence on stage.Shetty was present in the audience at the time.The act triggered an online backlash, with several calling Singh’s imitation insensitive and disrespectful to cultural and religious traditions.
