TRICHY: A private bus driver was arrested for assaulting a passenger who asked him to avoid driving rashly. A video of the incident that took place at the Trichy bus stand went viral on social media.The complainant, M Saravanan, aged 47 and a resident of Arimalam in Pudukottai district, also works as a driver in Chennai. On Friday around 5.30am, Saravanan boarded the private bus named ‘Sankar’ near Trichy Junction, heading toward the Kalaignar Karunanidhi Integrated Bus Terminus in Panjapur.R Anburaj, 30, from Srirangam, was the driver, and Murugan from Mannargudi, was the conductor. As the bus approached the bus stand at high speed, Saravanan requested the driver to avoid rash driving and slow down. Anburaj allegedly responded by rebuking him.An argument broke out between the driver and the passenger, which continued even after the bus reached the bus stand around 6am. Once Saravanan alighted, Anburaj also got down, abused him publicly, slapped him multiple times and threatened him of dire consequences. Saravanan filed a complaint at the Edamalaiyapatti Pudur police station. Police traced the bus’s registration number and contacted its owner, Sankar from Woraiyur. Shortly afterward, they arrested Anburaj.Anburaj was booked under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including 296(b) for obscene words, 115(2) for voluntarily causing hurt, and 351(3) for criminal intimidation.
