GHAZIABAD: A 44-year-old man was taken into custody by a team from Kavi Nagar police station for allegedly assaulting his mother at their home. The incident came to light after the man’s sister spotted the assault on a CCTV camera installed in their 70-year-old mother’s room and alerted neighbours and the police.The man, Nishant Thakur, lives with his mother in Sector 23, Sanjay Nagar, Madhuban Bapudham. ACP Kavinagar Suryabali Maurya said a video showing Thakur beating his mother reached them on Saturday. After looking at the video, they have initiated legal action against Thakur.Officers said Thakur’s sister, Nisha, who lives in the US, had installed a CCTV camera in her mother’s room to monitor her health as she was unwell. After noticing the assault on the camera feed, she shared the video with residents of the society and urged them to inform the police.The video, accessed by TOI, shows Thakur entering his mother’s room while she is lying on the bed. He appears to be agitated and repeatedly hits her, drags her by the neck towards him, pushes her back onto the bed and continues to assault her while shouting.Police said the video was handed over by society members. However, a formal case is yet to be registered, and further investigation is underway.
