Former First Lady Jill Biden’s ex-husband William Stevenson has been arrested and charged with murder of his wife Linda Stevenson who was found unresponsive inside their Delaware house in December. According to New Castle County Police, on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at around 11:16 p.m., officers responded to a residence on the 1300 block of Idlewood Road in the community of Oak Hill after receiving a report about a domestic dispute.When officers entered the home, they found Linda lying unresponsive. She was pronounced dead after officers administered life-saving measures. Following an extensive weeks-long investigation, on Monday, Linda’s husband, 77-year-old William Stevenson, was charged with murder in the first degree.Stevenson was found at his home on the 1300 block of Idlewood Road and taken into custody without incident, according to police.Police shared that Stevenson was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Howard Young Correctional Institution after failing to post $500,000 cash bail.The cause of Linda’s death has not been released.William was married to Jill Biden for five years and they got divorced in 1975. Jill married Joe Biden in 1977. Linda and William were married for nearly 40 years. While the Bidens maintained that they met after Jill and William’s divorce, William always stuck to his version that his marriage with Jill worsened after she started dating Joe Biden. William had a popular bar and music venue, The Stone Balloon, close to the University of Delaware campus where Jill was studying when they first met and got married. After their divorce, Jill fought for her part ownership over the bar but failed.
