Fake notes transaction leads to drug haul, arrest in J&K

JAMMU: The Samba police have arrested a drug peddler who aroused suspicion after he deposited counterfeit currency with face value of Rs 9,000, which led to further investigations and subsequent recovery of about 1.9kg of cocaine-like substance valued at Rs 19.4 crore.“On Feb 3, a written complaint was lodged at Bari Brahmana police station by the branch manager of Punjab National Bank of the area regarding depositing of Rs 9,000 in fake currency notes by one Dil Mohd of Digiana Ashram in Jammu,” a police spokesperson said. “An FIR was registered and investigation launched.”A scrutiny of his various bank accounts revealed substantial balances, the spokesperson said, adding that the suspect is a driver by profession.“During questioning, Dil Mohd disclosed he has been selling cocaine for a long time and had earned the amount through drug trafficking,” he said.Police have recovered two packets of cocaine weighing approximately 1.9kg from the garage of a factory where the accused worked as a driver.
