Election Commission extends SIR deadline for West Bengal by two weeks

NEW DELHI: The Election Commission on Tuesday extended the SIR deadlines for West Bengal by two weeks, allowing scrutiny of documents and disposal of claims and objections till February 21.Final electoral roll for the state shall now be published on Feb 28 instead of Feb 14. This is in line with the Supreme Court ‘s direction to the commission on Monday, for extension of the period of scrutiny of documents and disposal “by at least one week beyond Feb 14”. This is the fourth extension of SIR timeline with respect to West Bengal. As per the original SIR order issued on Oct 27, 2025, the scrutiny was to be done till Jan 8; this deadline was extended the first time to Jan 15, and then for a second time till Jan 19. On Jan 20, SC extended this deadline further to Feb 7.As per the latest SIR schedule issued by EC on Tuesday, hearing on SIR notices will continue till Feb 14, and scrutiny of documents and disposal wound up by Feb 21. Rationalisation of polling stations shall be done by Feb 25 and health parameters of the roll checked by Feb 27. The date of final publication of the electoral roll for West Bengal now stands revised to Feb 28.
