Kanpur: UP Businessman’s Son Crashes Speeding Lamborghini Into Vehicles, Injures Pedestrians

KANPUR: CCTV footage capturing the aftermath of the Lamborghini crash that shook Kanpur’s VIP Road on Sunday has surfaced, offering a glimpse into the chaotic scene following the accident involving Shivam Mishra, son of tobacco tycoon K K Mishra. The luxury sports car, a Lamborghini Revuelto worth over Rs 10 crore, reportedly went out of control in the city’s Gwaltoli area, hitting pedestrians and ramming into parked vehicles.

While the footage does not clearly show the car in speed, it shows the immediate aftermath: a crowd gathering around the accident site, traffic at a standstill on both sides, and bouncers stepping out of the vehicle to get an account of situation.Eyewitnesses described panic as the car collided with an autorickshaw and a parked motorcycle, leaving at least one pedestrian injured.Police confirmed that the Lamborghini, bearing a Delhi registration, was initially seized and an FIR registered under sections covering reckless driving, negligence, and endangering life. Preliminary investigations indicate that Mishra was behind the wheel when the car first hit an autorickshaw, accelerated near a turn, and then struck a motorcycle owned by Vishal Tripathi, who was nearby. Pedestrian Taufiq, a resident of Chaman Ganj Ghosiyana, sustained injuries while trying to escape and was sent for medical examination. In a surprising turn, Mishra’s lawyer, Mrityunjay Kumar, claimed on Tuesday that his client was not driving the Lamborghini at the time of the crash. According to him, the car was being driven by Mohan, a designated driver employed by the Mishra family. “The car was being driven by the driver, not by Shivam Mishra. We will present the facts and evidence before the court,” Kumar said, stressing the incident should be treated as an accident rather than a criminal offence. However, Kanpur police have rejected the claim, citing CCTV footage, eyewitness accounts, and other evidence that place Mishra at the wheel. Commissioner of Police Raghubir Lal told news agency PTI, “Available evidence and eyewitness statements corroborate Mishra’s presence at the driver’s seat. FIRs may sometimes contain incomplete details initially, but investigation confirms his involvement.”Senior officers also referred to videos showing bystanders and rescuers pulling a man, identified as Mishra, from the car immediately after the impact. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Atul Kumar Srivastava added, “CCTV footage from the site identifies the person pulled out of the vehicle as Shivam Mishra. Arguments made by counsel will not affect our probe. All facts will be placed before the court if required.Police teams visited Mishra’s Arya Nagar residence to serve notice but could not establish contact. The FIR, initially naming an unidentified driver, was updated to include Shivam Mishra as the accused, and the Lamborghini has been seized for forensic examination. The incident, which took place around 3:15 pm in the upscale Gwaltoli area, has sparked public outrage over reckless driving and perceived elite impunity. Following the crash, SHO Santosh Gaur was removed from his post. Shivam Mishra, 35, is the son of K K Mishra, owner of Banshidhar Exports Pvt Ltd, a firm recently under scrutiny by the Income Tax department for tax-related matters.(With agency inputs)
