Indian-origin truck driver arrested for smuggling 700 pounds of meth from US to Canada, could face deportation

The Canada Border Services Agency announced the arrest of Satnam Singh, an Indian-origin truck driver, after he was found smuggling 700 pounds of methamphetamine hidden inside his truck. The incident took place in November but the border administration announced the charges against Singh Tuesday. This is believed to be the largest narcotics seizure at the Abbotsford-Huntingdon port of entry.Satnam Singh was driving a commercial vehicle which was returning to Canada from the US. The CBSA detector dog team found the suspected item while officers detected 12 boxes containing the huge amount of narcotics within the truck and trailer. Satnam Singh has been charged with possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of importation into Canada and possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, the CBSA added.“This large seizure represents another truckload of illegal drugs that will not end up in our communities,” said federal minister of public safety Gary Anandasangaree, in the release.“It is a product of the dedicated work by the CBSA and RCMP who are on the front lines in the fight against drug trafficking and organized crime. Through their efforts, we are securing our borders, dismantling international crime networks and keeping Canadians safe.”The CBSA’s statement notes that foreign nationals caught smuggling narcotics can face removal from Canada and a ban on returning to the country.From January through October 2025, CBSA Pacific Region officers made 10,428 seizures of illegal narcotics, seizing a total of 1,041 kilograms of methamphetamines alongside other drugs, according to the CBSA.
