Kiren Rijiju releases video of women Congress MPs in verbal confrontation in Speaker chamber

NEW DELHI: The row over Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla’s statement that last week he was forced to request PM Narendra Modi not to speak during the debate on motion of thanks to President because of the fear that some of Congress’ women MPs had planned to do something unprecedentely indecorous, has taken another turn with parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju releasing a video.Rijiju said the video showing women MPs of Congress engaged in a verbal confrontation at Speaker Om Birla’s chamber, proves his claim that the bunch was aggressive.“This is the video clip taken by a Congress MP when 20–25 Congress MPs entered the Speaker’s chamber, abused him and threatened the PM. Our party believes in debate and discussion and never encouraged MPs to threaten physically,” he said. The nine-second video showed MPs making some angry comments, which Congress said followed BJP MP Nishikant Dubey’s attack on Nehru-Gandhi family citing some books. It was an abusive behaviour, he alleged. His comments are a counter to the opposition’s rejection of Speaker’s statement that Modi’s scheduled speech in Lok Sabha on Feb 2 was called off at the last moment due to apprehension of any incident involving opposition MPs.
