Speeding Thar crashes into police patrol vehicle near CM Nitish Kumar's residence

PATNA: A major tragedy was narrowly averted in Patna’s high-security VVIP area on Sunday when an over-speeding Thar collided with a police patrol vehicle near the BP Mandal roundabout, close to chief minister Nitish Kumar’s residence.The incident occurred when the Thar, travelling at high speed, rammed into a moving patrol vehicle belonging to the Shakti Suraksha Dal — a special unit formed under Patna Police to protect women, students and young girls in the city.The forceful impact caused significant damage to both vehicles. The Thar then smashed through the guardrail and continued forward briefly before coming to a halt.Quick-response personnel at the spot helped contain the situation. The Gandhi Maidan Traffic Police team immediately reached the scene. DSP (Traffic-3) Ajit Kumar, who also rushed to the spot, said, “A patrol vehicle was hit by a Thar. The front portions of both vehicles were damaged in the incident. A female police officer was injured, while the other personnel were safe. The Thar driver and the other occupants were taken to the police station. The Thar was travelling at a high speed and broke through the guardrail.”Four individuals, including the driver and other occupants, were immediately detained and taken to the police station for questioning and further investigation. Authorities are examining factors such as speeding and possible negligence that led to the crash.Kumar also stated that an FIR will be filed based on the police vehicle driver’s statement, and further action will be taken at the Gandhi Maidan Traffic Police Station.When asked about such an incident occurring in a VVIP area, the DSP said, “We are constantly taking action against over-speeding. We take action against those who are negligent.”
