Troops fire at ‘drone’ along LoC; search for airdrops

JAMMU: Alert troops spotted a suspected drone along the Line of Control (LoC) in Gulpur sector of J&K’s Poonch district on Friday and fired a few rounds at it. The unmanned aerial vehicle, however, could not be brought down.The UAV later proceeded towards Siriyan village in Gulpur, allegedly entering the other side of the LoC, officials said. “Security forces heightened surveillance in the sector and launched a search operation in the area to ensure there were no airdrops of weapons or narcotics,” said an official.Earlier this month, J&K Police and BSF, in a joint operation, recovered around 6kg of drone-dropped narcotics worth around Rs 40 crore near the international border in Jammu’s RS Pura sector on Feb 14.
