Indore penthouse row: 18-year-old was driving for past one year without licence; teenager, father sent on 2-day police remand

INDORE: Eighteen-year-old Mohnish, who ploughed his car through a group of residents leading to death of a woman at Shiv Vatika township, had allegedly been driving for the past one to two years without a valid licence. He turned 18 just seven days ago.The Lasudia police have secured his and his father Kuldeep Chaudhary’s two-day remand for their alleged role in death of woman engineer Shampa Pathak Pandey in the township. The duo was produced in court on Friday.Investigators said that both would be questioned in detail and subjected to identification procedures as part of the probe. They are likely to be produced in court again after the remand period.Inside the police station, Mohnish appeared visibly shaken and broke down, telling officers he had made a mistake. Police, however, are focusing on reconstructing the sequence of events and strengthening the case with technical and eyewitness evidence.“Despite being underage until recently, he had been behind the wheel for at least one to two years without authorisation,” Lasudia inspector Taresh Soni said.According to Soni, statements of key witnesses have been recorded, including wife of the building’s watchman and other residents present during the incident. Statements of the victim’s husband Saurabh and some others are yet to be recorded. Police said they are building a strong case.Mohnish is accused of assaulting several residents and allegedly ripping out a chunk of one man’s hair. He then got into a car with his mother and rammed into the crowd, making rounds on the premises, injuring several people and fatally knocking down Shampa Pathak Pandey. CCTV footage has been seized for investigation.
