Middle East crisis: Hardeep Puri to visit Qatar amid energy security concerns

NEW DELHI: Union minister for petroleum and natural gas Hardeep Singh Puri will visit Qatar on April 9-10, amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East and concerns over global energy supplies, reported ANI.The visit comes after a two-week ceasefire was announced between the US and Iran. The region remains volatile due to the evolving situation involving the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global oil shipments. India, which imports a significant portion of its crude requirements, has faced the pinch of blockade of the crucial waterway. The fuel and LPG prices have also seen increase over the recent weeks. The government has asserted that it has been closely monitoring developments for any potential impact on supply and prices.Puri’s trip is seen as part of India’s broader efforts to engage key partners in the Gulf and safeguard its energy interests amid geopolitical uncertainties.
