'True journalism': Priyanka Gandhi condemns Israel 'hatred' over 'cold-blooded murder' of Al Jazeera reporters; calls it 'yet another heinous crime on Palestine'

NEW DELHI: Amid mounting international outrage over the killing of five Al Jazeera journalists, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday condemned the Israeli strike, calling it “cold-blooded murder” and “heinous crime.” Taking to X, Priyanka said, “The cold-blooded murder of five Al Jazeera journalists is yet another heinous crime committed on Palestinian soil.” She further praised the slain reporters for their courage, saying their commitment to truth could not be broken by “the violence and hatred of the Israeli state.”“In a world where much of the media is enslaved to power and commerce, these brave souls reminded us of what true journalism is,” she added.Israel on Sunday targeted an Al Jazeera journalist in a strike on Gaza City. It had accused him of being a Hamas operative and a “military terrorist,” a claim that Al Jazeera has denied. Al Jazeera on Monday confirmed that five of its journalists were killed in the strike, while denying any ties of its reporters to Hamas. The media network further alleged that Israel is targeting reporters to silence them before planning an offensive to take over the Gaza Strip. Israel, including PM Benjamin Netanyahu, has long accused the Qatari Network of being the “mouthpiece of Hamas.” Last year, it banned the network in the country, accusing it of harming Israel’s security and inciting violence against its soldiers.
