A 27-year-old baseball coach was struck by a stray bullet on Sunday morning, September 21, 2025, during a youth tournament at TheRac baseball complex in Katy, Texas. Waller County Emergency Medical Services and the Waller County Sheriff’s Office said deputies first answered a firearms complaint at about 9:50 a.m. The coach suffered a gunshot wound to his shoulder, was airlifted to a nearby hospital, and was later released in stable condition. Local law enforcement said three people now face deadly conduct charges linked to the shooting.

Corbin Geisendorff, assistant coach for the Texas Colts, said the scene felt terrifying. “There was bullets flying everywhere. It wasn’t one shot,” Geisendorff told ABC13 as players and coaches ran for safety. Video from the complex shows children leaving the diamonds and adults pulling them behind fences and dugouts. Geisendorff said he went to the injured coach, who was working with another team that day, and saw people use a belt as a tourniquet to stop the bleeding. The Waller County Sheriff’s Office told reporters that deputies learned the shots likely came from people shooting at targets on nearby property. Officials said the coach did not appear to be the target. Deputies identified three suspects and charged them with deadly conduct, and some local outlets reported the suspects may now be in custody. TheRac baseball posted on Facebook that it has paused all games and practices while police investigate. Facility leaders said they are reviewing safety plans and working with law enforcement to protect players and families at future events. Parents and coaches said they are shaken by the morning. Police asked anyone who saw the shooting or who has video to contact the Waller County Sheriff’s Office. The investigation is ongoing. No names of those charged have been released. Community members and facility staff said they want clear answers and stronger safety steps so children can play without fear.
