Former NFL running back and Cincinnati Bengals star Rudi Johnson, aged 45, has died. On the evening of September 22, 2025, in Sunny Isles Beach, Florida, police claim Johnson committed suicide. After witnessing a terrible sight, neighbors called 911. They reported hearing someone screaming for help just before Johnson fell from a building.

One 911 caller told dispatchers that she saw someone fall from a building near her home around 11 PM. She said she heard a voice screaming, “Help! Help! Don’t do this. Don’t do this. Somebody help me. Somebody help me.” The voice sounded like a woman pleading for help.Another caller to 911 claimed they heard a lot of screaming followed by a loud bang, which turned out to be Johnson falling. Five persons altogether contacted the authorities attempting to get help for Johnson. First responders arrived at the scene just minutes after the calls. Johnson’s death has left former teammates, friends, and fans deeply saddened. Chad Johnson, who played alongside Rudi Johnson in Cincinnati, expressed his grief. “I just lost my dog, I just lost my dog yesterday, Rudi Johnson. And I’m upset. I’m upset, I’m hurt,” Chad said. He added that it’s important to tell people you care about them. “One thing I always did with my teammates is I always had a chance to tell them ‘I love you.’”The Bengals also paid tribute. Team president Mike Brown remembered Johnson as “a fine person and an excellent running back for us.” He said Johnson was “dependable and productive as a player” and spoke highly of his character.This terrible incident stresses the need of supporting those who are fighting and of paying attention to mental health.
